Beijing is the most popular tourist destination in China and among foreigners who visit China. Beijing is my favorite city, and I believe it is for many other people. It is so big, diverse and fun, gathering everything from everywhere, and you’ll feel that you want to see and explore more of it any time you visit.
This photo shows my breakfast in Beijing, very traditional. On the right is fried liver (炒肝), and on the left are steamed buns.
It is the largest city square in the world. With about 600 years of history, it is usually the first attraction to visit for a first-time visitor to Beijing. Behind the Tian'anmen Tower is the entrance to the Forbidden City.
You can climb up (by paying a small fee) the Tian'anmen Tower to view the whole square. That's what China's state leaders do when holding national holiday celebrations or some other very important events.
Every day there are flag raising and lowering ceremonies at the square, attracting countless people to watch. Because the raising and lowering time coincide with the times of sunrise and sunset, you need to check the time one day in advance.
Temple of Heaven
It is the place where ancient Chinese emperors held praying ceremonies for blessings of the country and his people. Besides seeing the ancient buildings, another interesting thing is that you can see local people gather in groups for morning exercises, and you will also see some people singing, dancing, playing musical instruments or some other handicrafts and traditional gadgets.
Badaling Section of the Great Wall
It is the most famous and frequented section of the Great Wall. As a must-see sight, there are lots of people any Lots of people, any time. So if you visit during holidays, suggest you go to another section.
There are three ways to climb up the Great Wall: pulley car, cable car or climbing on foot. We chose pulley car. Return trip is 60 yuan per person. There was a fat white cat at the station where we got on the pulley car up the mountain. I don’t know if the cat is still there. Usually a one-day tour to Badaling is accompanied by a trip to the Ming Tombs, which is located halfway from Beijing city center to Badaling.
