Essence of Guangzhou Historical Heritages
As a time-honored city in China, Guangzhou is not only famous for its natural scenic spots and diversified folk customs, but it’s celebrated for its profound cultural connotation, and the following historical heritages are essence of Guangzhou in modern Chinese history, all of which you shouldn’t miss during your Guangzhou travel.
1. Sun Yet-sun’s Memorial Hall
As a splendid octagonal palatial architecture with 3,700 square meters, the 49-meter tall Sun Yet-sun’s Memorial Hall in Guangzhou is comprised of four classical, imposing buildings featuring double-eaves and a pavilion roof, with a stone column hanging from the center of the roof, and the patterns on the roof is delicately-decorate, creating a solemn atmosphere for the hall.
2. Mausoleum of 72 Martyrs at Huanghuagang
Perched at the south foot of White Cloud Mountain and surrounded by dense pine trees and cypresses, Mausoleum of 72 Martyrs at Huanghuagang is dedicated to 72 members of United League killed during Guangzhou Uprising led by Sun Yet-sun on 27th of April, 1911, where the Octagonal Pavilion, Four-Square Pond and the Stone Bridge are added later as affiliated complex.
3. Memorial Mausoleum to the Martyrs in Guangzhou Uprising
Guangzhou Uprising led by CCP (Chinese Communist Party) broke out on 11th of December in 1927, resulting in failure and numerous CCP members arrested and assassinated, and Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government established Memorial Mausoleum to the Martyrs in Guangzhou Uprising in memory of the unyielding revolutionary spirit of CCP members, making it a bases for patriotic education in Guangzhou.
4. Temple of Nanhai God
As a significant cultural relic site along the ancient marine silk road, the Temple of Nanhai God has been established since 14th year (594) of Kaihuang period in the Sui dynasty, which boasts the largest and ever best-preserved temple of its kind in South China Sea, witnessing the rises and falls of ancient marine silk road since the Western Han dynasty. Occupying 30,000 square meters, the temple is composed of a memorial archway, the main gate, a pavilion, the Grand Hall and the Rear Hall from south to north.
5. Museum of Huangpu Military Academy
Initially known as Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang) Military Academy, Huangpu Military Academy was established by Sun Yet-sun, and the Museum of Huangpu Military Academy was built in commemoration of this historical event.
6. The Western Han Nanyue King’s Tomb
The Western Han Nanyue King’s Tomb witnesses 2,000-year history of Guangzhou, which is famous all over China for its rich and colorful collections from the Western Han dynasty and it elegant architectural style.
