Hailuogou, located in Ganzi Tibet Autonomous Prefecture (甘孜藏族自治州), is a great tourist attraction famous for glacier, forest and thermal springs. The most unique feature of Hailuogou is: the glacier in Hailuogou is at the lowest altitude, comparing with those at the same latitude. The glacier extends to the edge of the forest, which is really rare in the world. In early winter days, the glacier of Hailuogou is covered with white snow, and visiting Hailuogou is really a great choice, especially for those visitors who have never seen snow scene before.

Besides seeing the graceful snow scene in Hailuogou, bathing in the thermal springs which are surrounded by snow and glacier is highly recommended. It is a magnificent world combined with cold and warm. The temperature of the pools ranks from 38 °Cto 48 °C, and the water in the mount of the spring can reach 92 °C. Of course, there are thermal swimming pools available for visitors.

How to Get There from Chengdu

There are long-distance buses to Hailuogou in Chengdu New South Gate Bus Station (新南门车站). The earliest bus departs at 08:30. The length of the time for a voyage is about 5 hours, and the ticket fare is 110 yuan per person.

Kashgar was my last stop on my silk road adventure. I love the old city and it felt like a step back in-time. It was so relax and slow pace which is shocking for someone who lived on the fast lane. The beautiful Id Kah Mosque was a stunning and awesome for its size. It was quite tranquil inside. The Sunday Market was great--but after a long 7 hours round-trip return from Lake Karakul, I was a bit tired and cranky. However, on my next trip, I love to do the market proper. There was so much I wanted to see and buy--mostly the beautiful clothing, Uyghur scarves, and handicrafts. Lake Karakul was stunning with icy glacial topped mountain and stunning pristine clear lake. It was an interesting trip up there!!! I enjoyed the live stock market and even on Sunday it was packed. The old Kashgar city was really breathtaking!! It felt like another time and I felt I had been there in another life. I enjoyed visiting the local family, a widow, had the most wonderful spread of snack and aromatic Uyghur herbal tea. i didn't think of it, should have asked the guide about getting the tea!!!

On my last day in Kashgar, I had lunch at the Restaurant Orida with the most fabulous food in the world and it even had a floor show of Uyghur musicians playing and singing. All in all I was very pleased with my trip on the Silk Road. I had a taste of it ahnd on the journey I would like to explore the places in detail and certainly buy out everything. I wanted the famous silk carpet from Xianjiang. When I have own home, I will have carpets from Xianjiang!! A perfect ending to a trip I dreamed of. Then it was back Urumqi, then onward to Shanghai, my final destination in China!!!

After visited Tibet with a group of 10 tourists as well as the latest unexpected illness of one customer of mine, I think it is very important to give out some tips for tourists that are planning their Tibet travel.

1. Don't go to Tibet without warm clothes; visiting to Yomdrok lake and Mt.Everest or Lake Namtso etc even in summer requires down jackets or Rocketsports; the reason to get yourself warm is that once you catch a cold, you are more likely to end up with high attitude sickness and cannot deal with the long distance ride on the tour either.

2. Mental preparation:It is very normal if you have a headache or feel uneasy when you are in Tibet.knowing that to experience the high attitude sickness itself is also a kind of tour experience. Walk slowly and on the first day arrival Lhasa, do not take bath nor do any sightseeing but have a good sleep or just relax at the hotel is good to let yourself beaccustomed to the condition in Tibet.

3. For senior travelers, it is suggested that to have a health check before getting to Tibet. A customer of mine who is very energetic and had travelled worldwide had problem in Tibet lately; his tour to Beijing, Xian in the first 6 days was very well. However on the day to Potala Palace, he felt not comfortable and had a stomached. Our guide took him to the hospital and the doctor check said that he had kidney stone and the pain was really killing him. Fortunately, he was well treated by a professional doctor and the pain was gone within 1 day, he flew out of Lhasa the next day.

4. What to pack: Medicine( for cold and diarrhea Aspirin); water proof outdoor shoes; sunglass; Camera, not too heavy If you take very heavy camera set in the high land with less oxygen. It's a burden for you. You can take very good picture inTibet with even card camera; portable SLR camera is also ok.

5. Travel insurance We recommend that you may buy insurance covering a large scale in your own country. If hospitalized, please remember to collect every single document from hospital that insurance company may need you to offer.

6. Hygiene: Once you get out of Lhasa city, toilets are not available, sometimes a toilet is just a hole on the ground or behind bushes or rocks. Some monasteries had toilet however the condition was very worse; there is even no door at the toilet.

From Turpan, my trusty guide and driver took me to Urumqi on a beautiful Saturday morning. A brilliant idea came to my guide, since I was to return to Urumqi only to have to leave for Shanghai mid-morning; he suggested that I do some of the sightseeing now as oppose to cramming it into a busy morning. Of course, I took the offer and did it. And I was glad that I did. We spent an hour at the Xianjiang Museum which was wonderful. I saw the great Xianjiang's history and the famous Tarim mummies in its glories. I wish I had more time to explore Urumqi. The Eradoqiao market bazaar was the best. I bought some great scarves, saffrons, a Uyghur shirt. However, I forgot to buy great Uyghur music which I liked. Next trip, i am sure to scoop up cds, beautiful handcrafted mini musical instruments; a mini satar, dutar etc. Heavenly Lake lives up to its fame for its beauty! I wish I had more photos of Urumqi.....next trip!!
